    Grant's Revolvers sell for record

Ulysses S. Grant's Remington Revolvers Sold for More Than $5.17 Million During Rock Island Auction Company's May Premier Auction. That headline was copied and pasted. You can find the story just about everywhere. The articles credits L.D. Nimschke with the engraving.'

John Rohner’s collection of chasing hammer heads

I engraved one For John. Neat project and very funny man. Even in his late 80's he had the quickest wit.

    removing info on guns

It seems as if someone at ATF recently has a fixation on the "serial" number . At one time, I had an agent tell me that as long as I replaced the SN in the approximate location it came from the factory, it would be ok to remove it in order to restore the gun. It was even ok to make it as fancy...

    Question: 1-Step versus 2-Step Re-sharpening Process

Whether you hone the face or just the heels, you are still removing "something". Eventually, the graver won't be at a useable length and will be discarded. As John and Sam alludes to...gravers are relatively inexpensive when you consider how much money you get in return from their use.

    Who engraved this?

Since someone mentioned Bill Gamradt, it wouldn't take much to get a hold of him and ask. He's still in FEGA last I remembered.

    Stippling a GRS handpiece

I bet it wouldn't take much effort to "rough up" a palm knob and dip it in paint. Sure, it will wear off, but it's repeatable. Heck....you can heat color most grades of steel, even SS. Although heat coloring isn't very durable, A top coat of clear will preserve the color....and it's also...

    Cigar Tube

CJ's work is never disappointing, for sure. As far as any advice for your project, all I can offer is from the work I do on flute instruments. I use a mandrel to fill the tube and provide a solid support in both the holding and the engraving. I suppose a dowel rod or something like bismuth...

    GRS Hand Versus Foot Control

You know Marty, if my foot pedal fell apart, I bet I could segue right back to the palm control effortlessly. The palm controls certainly handles the task for those with back or leg issues. Like you, I use hand push for a lot of work, such as shading and banknote---because ANY power is just too...

    GRS Hand Versus Foot Control

My experience with the Air Tact goes way back to the auxiliary AT units that you added onto the GraverMax .....and I did give it my all. I wore out multiple palm pads and can honestly say I used it for years. When GRS developed the GraverMach AT, I jumped on board with it and continued on my...

    SHOT SHOW 2021just got cancelled...

I cannot find fault with your decision, Marty. I'll see you down the road.

....I wonder if the Antique Arms , and therefore FEGA, is next? I hope not.

    A fun diversion

Wow! I love these stories. What a wonderful and colorful way to add "character" to the masterpiece. Bravo!

    Baby Luger

You don't get very many opportunities to work on something a little "Rare" and unusual. The stars aligned one more time in my favor, or so it seems. Ever since I engraved one for the American Pistolsmith's Guild in 2005, I have wanted one for my very own. It took a few years to acquire this, and...

    Progress photo

I always enjoy looking at your work, and that goes WAY back to the early 1990's in Reno, NV. Most excellent work.

Colt Collectors Honor their Show Gun Engravers

Thanks John...it is what it is. Mike Dubber felt I was good enough to be a Colt Master, and that means more to me than anyone can imagine. In the "Big Picture" of life, worse things can happen. The Colt Collectors Association has been a stellar group to be associated with. I'm good. I did...
