    Ken Hunt

Ever since I became interested in engraving, I have been following Ken Hunt wherever I can find him on the internet. As most of us realise he is a Grand master and living legend. He contributes so much to the engraving community just by having his work available for viewing. He continually...

    Scope or nope.

A month or so ago i was wondering if it would be better to purchase good quality graving gear or invest in a sterio microscope. I bought a scope. And I can say definitively that being able to see what you are doing is the most important thing. I have not done much work and really I’m just...

    Scope or nope.

Carrying on from scope or graver, has anyone had experience with digital microscopes with the screen display. They seem like they would be a viable option and some have really high working distances but I haven’t heard of any engravers using them.? regards Jeff

    Graver or Scope?

Yeah, I bought 3 or 4 different pair but couldn’t get any of them to focus through both eyes.

    Graver or Scope?

I can’t buy a cheap stereo microscope, they are just not available as a used item. I would be looking at the Leica A60 if I make a purchase, unfortunately there is no way to buy it cheap. I’m looking at over $3,800 ($2,500 - $2800 US$)

Thanks ,I have optivisor and other cheap magnifiers and have a bush version of a ball vice using a 4 jaw chuck but I need to get a closer view of what’s going on at the graver tip.

    Graver or Scope?

I have a home built graver set up, which I put together a couple of years ago. I do a bit of work now and again mostly coins, but I'm struggling to produce quality work. Of course I do not do enough practice but I feel like I am being held back by 1. the equipment that I am using and 2. not...

    Practice plate in progress

It’s work like this that reminds me just how far I have to go before I can consider that I’m half decent.

    Emu egg

Thanks for the compliment but I’m by no means the first. The craft has been around for about 150 years. While largely associated with Aboriginal Art, both black fellas and white fellas are carving. There are a few US carvers as well.

    Emu egg

I am not up to exhibition stage with my metal engraving but I thought that I would share this. Carved emu for our nephew and his bride. I have been under a bit of time pressure and consequently this is not my finest work. Bit disappointed with the lettering. The names get lost in the curls and...
