I see in the new Micro-Mark cataloge they now have a demagnetizer, part number 87912, for $18.95. Though of a different shape, it appears to be of the same type I have been using for many years.

When using these, you should withdraw the tool from the demag slowly before turning off the current. If you don't the tool may take the polarization of the alternating current when the current is suddenly shut off.

Thanks Sam. I have been trying to find a reasonably priced Demag. but to no avail. I'll be ordering one today.

I bought on from Amazon. It wouldn't even turn on. Wasn't worth returning. I ordered another from another source.

I made mine from an old-style soldering gun, (you know the old black one the kind of look like a pistol) that i found at a garage sale. I replaced the soldering tip with some 10-gauge wire formed into a coil about two inches long. Cost $6. 00 US.
Skill comes from diligence.

Looks like I'll be ordering one from Micro-Mark. Its a lot easier and cleaner than wiping the stuck chips off on my shirt, and hearing the wife complain about little pieces of "stuff" in the washer.
