    Critique Request Meek squirrel

Monk should get an award for the " MOST DIPLOMATIC " critique ( r) . I've noticed over the years how he gets his point across but in the nicest way ! I always enjoy seeing his comments. Thanks Monk !

    Critique Request Meek squirrel

Dang ! Now, every time I look at it , I see a squirrel and a donut ! That's supposed to be his hip or haunch. I tried more shading right at the last and made that area more pronounced than it should be. I haven't learned yet how to stop picking at my work. I'll try to adjust that. Any...

    Critique Request Meek squirrel

Can I get some critique on my Meek Squirrel ? I think he looks a little bushy in the extreme close up but at a normal eye length he looks quite a bit better. The pics were taken outside on a cloudy day and reveal so much more than the indoor lights. I don't have it darkened with ink yet . I...

Where to buy gold wire ?

I've been trying to find some 24k dead soft wire for inlay. I can't seem to locate any. Rio Grande only has 1/4 hard as the softest available. I only know to do an internet search to find a supply company and have had no good results. Can someone suggest another company to try ? I only...

    first try

I just got a couple books, Drawing Wildlife by J.C. Amberlyn and, The artists guide to drawing realistic animals by Doug Lindstrand. I think I saw someone on this forum recommend them. Both books are very good and also sort of similar . In one, it talks about the direction of the fur for best...

    Brass Whistle:

Really nice, especially the dog. I'm amazed at how you can capture so much of a likeness with just a few choice cuts in metal. The dog doesn't look like just a certain breed but like his owner could recognize him. Thanks for posting, Mark

    H&H .700

Phil the shadows on the gold at different angles tell me it sits quite high. I noticed when people see any engraving one of the first things they do is touch and rub it. With the raised gold and mile deep relief, your work must be a treat not only to see but, to feel as well.

    H&H .700

Mitch beat me to the comment about the elephant. I wonder though, do you meet the people that own these guns ? And do you ever sneak one out back and pop off a few rounds through them ? Just to say you shot one ? Great pics by the way. Thanks for posting, Mark

    Announcement: My engraving design tutorials

Thank you for doing the videos Jan ! I sat through the first two and have already seen I need to watch more of them. Very informative in a way I can see and understand ! They're short enough I can focus on them and go back if need be.

Finally done with my first gun.

Ok guys, I'm a little hesitant to even post this. A few months ago I posted the first pic of my butt plate I started engraving and one of the replies was to throw it away and start over ! Well some other advise was to keep going and learn from my work. Boy did I learn a lot .This is my 10/22...

Here's your critique...…….. WOW ! I really like the way you included the screws and jewels in the work. The scrolls are made up of series of scoops ! Huh !

French gray ( grey ) finish.

ok, I went to the tips section of this forum and found four posts about French Gray. I googled French gray several times in the past with no good results. This time I googled " French gray gun finish forum" . I had dozens of posts to choose from. I will definitely make some sample plates to try...

French gray ( grey ) finish.

I'm almost ready to put the finish on my project. It's the 10/22 I've been working on for months. I've looked all over for some direction for a French Gray finish but have had no luck. Can I get some basic instruction from someone ? I'm planning on using Birchwood Casey Super blue for the steel...

    2019 FEGA-Colt 1911 auction gun.

Really nice ! I see you've snuck in an F.E.G.A. banner on the left side among the scrolls. Are those the grips that are staying with the finished gun ? The blank spaces on the sides, is that part of the design or is more work to go there ? Thanks for the pics , Mark
