BE SURE TO ADD AN OIL TRAP IN THE CIRCUIT before air gets to the handpiece. that can prevent fuuture problems. i've been using my lindsay for several years. i have never cleaned it.
chriS decamillis did an on-line type of learning course as a few others do. as far as becoming an actual apprentice, you'll likely hit the lottery first. who knows, you may just get lucky

i learned many moons ago to avoid stainless regardless of alloy.there's many here that produce beautiful work using stainless. a ss 44 magnum s&w revolver cured me of the urge to further punish myself.

using a new tool for the first time: lay out several small circles and straight lines. then wavy lines. this will give you the feel of the tool as well as how it responds to your hand.
cold rolled steel is mild steel, or very close in carbon content. it's rolled cold rather than hot rolled. it is slightly more resistant than is h,r. mild to oxidation. i don't think there is a mild form that wont take up oxygen.
if there's a junk yard near you, you'll likely find a great source of mild steel, copper, and brass. the steel can be had for merely pennies a pound. i do sign work for my local yard. these guys save the good stuff for me. it's a blessing to have friends !!
