    Graver sharpening: my new Microhone

Hello engraving community, I have finished building my new Microhone, and wish to present the setup here. Why building a new one? My Minihone worked well, but had some limitations. The disc carrier had a fixed M3 thread post, no way to fix the new fangled diamond rubber wheels without...

    Art of Engraving Book online

if you browse archive.org, you may find more (antique) books, like Ciphers and monograms, modern letter engraving, the art of ornament and many more. A cornucopia of knowledge and reference to me.

Good learning material for hand push engraving?

Hello Sam, I do not know him personally, I saw his name first when I was looking for the “Schabring”. I gather from this website that he is the founder of this historic firearm collection and a former researcher. They sell the books on the web site for 40-60 Euro, so I guess they would not be...

    Wild Heerbrugg M3Z Help

Have you got a manual for your scope? If not, here https://remchowiki.science.oregonstate.edu/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=leica_wild_m3_manual.pdf you can download it. At page 10 it says something about a lever to engage the click-stop for the magnification changer. Maybe that helps. Good luck Ralf

Advice For Achieving Finish on Watch

After reading trough the german textes I guess that the background pattern is done with very short criss-crossing strokes of a line graver (“Fadenstichel”), rather than with a stippling technique. There are some signs of it in the first image posted, one can see some rows of points that have the...

Which transparency film should I get?

I tried the baking parchment for transfer. The results varied a lot. Sometimes part of the toner still stuck to the paper (brown rectangular precut paper, folded in it‘s package) after transfer, sometimes the toner stuck to the hot roll inside the printer (no-name and branded white baking paper...

Which transparency film should I get?

Important details: the sandwich wrapper paper is flimsy and warps at high temperature. I make my designs (often multiple printouts of the same design) in A6 format. I print first such an A6 design on a sturdy A4 cardboard (200-300g/m2) to mark the position, and use this as carrier for my...

    New to engraving from UK

Another advantage of starting with high quality tools is, if you one day decide to sell them again, you get good second-hand money for them. It also works the other way round. I bought all my GRS stuff second hand. I got 20-35% lower prices for 901 hand pieces, Gravermax, Dual angle fixture and...

Gadget for grinding gravers with rounded shapes from blanks

There are now BLDC Motors for lawn mowers ect. which could run at low speed and full torque with a suitable controller. I was tempted to use one of those for the next minihone I‘m going to build, but with about 20 of the DC motors still in my stock I will stick to the Johnson motor.

Gadget for grinding gravers with rounded shapes from blanks

Hi Papart, it is a 12V DC Motor from Bühler, also built by Johnson Electric. They where available at 1 Euro / pcs. at an surplus electronic shop. Years later I found where they are actually build in: pumps for parking brakes of Diesel cars, e.g. BMW. They are very quiet, have a high torque and...

Question: Advice wanted - publish a new gadget here or try to market it?

Getting a patent in Europe is a time consuming, expensive task. Already for a german patent that would cost me several thousand Euros. More a again for a european patent, and again for a world wide one. I don’t believe I could earn that much back. Hence the idea to market it through an...

Thanks a lot, Allen! The amount of time it would take to turn the prototype into a product, build and market it is exactly what frightens me. Cheers Ralf
