    Engraving slipjoint shields

I can't see harder materials like stag antler or other kinds of ivories being a problem. I'm unfamiliar with composites like Westinghouse micarta, and abalone/shell materials are known to be fragile and whether pressure on it from engraving into the shield would cause any chips cracks or flaking.

    Engraving slipjoint shields

Thank you both for your input I appreciate it. My biggest concern was less about it coming out and more about how it could potentially chip, crack, or otherwise damage fragile scale materials. I have seen a few examples which gives me a little more courage.

    Engraving slipjoint shields

Hey everyone, I'm just looking for some simple advice on engraving shields on slipjoint folders. I have some knifemakers who've asked me if I can detail these features but I have reservations about trying as I feel these things are maybe just glued in and might vibrate out of the pocket they're...

I mean... They are playing cards, but not like, for poker haha. There are a few artists that can fetch up to a thousand dollars for one single painted magic the gathering card. Many people make a whole ass living painting magic the gathering cards. The communities, the number of people doing it...

    Unconventional Ornament

I actually discovered a fast and easy way to make sure that the surface is completely free of anything that might grab the gold leaf: workable fixative. Spray a layer down right before applying glue. I probably could have gotten away with using traditional size had I done this step the last...

    Unconventional Ornament

Yeah it can. The glue cures hard. I use an agate burnisher to apply the holographic film actually. It works best that way. I'll probably look into a few more ways to get gold on cards. The biggest problem I've run into so far is how to mask the card off effectively when applying it. I ruined an...

    Unconventional Ornament

Actually, no, that's for the holographic effect on the star. I used transfer solution for the gold ring. It works okay. Several layers are needed before you get it looking solid. I have gold size, I tried it on a different card, it works okay, sort of like using rubber cement or eyelash glue...

    Unconventional Ornament

Hi everyone, I'm here with some unconventional ornament. My husband plays this card game. I guess it is very "trendy" to make changes to the cards and do your own art on them... if you are good. I did this card in bold american scroll, and titled it "Hand Engraver's Ornamental Sol Ring". It's...

    One year of engraving

I came into an entire glass fired enameling setup. The original owner passed from breast cancer and these items were destined for the dump, as her widower married a woman 30 years younger and she didn't want to see "his dead wife's stuff" in "her house". It will cost me nearly a grand to wire my...

Thank you! I am just taking photos of a new project with the DSLR. Here's some awful cell phone pictures in the mean time. Yes, I did the stone setting. I made the rings, also. I worked as a goldsmith for 12 years before I began to do any fine art engraving. In those pictures I included a few...

    One year of engraving

Good luck! Don't be afraid to take pictures and really detailed notes. My memory is NOT GREAT so I have a digital folder to look into whenever I start scratching my head. I was too afraid of looking like a weirdo taking photos of the blackboard or taking short video clips of a crucial demo at...

    Designs with Adobe Illustrator

I thought I would post a couple of my vector designs that I have made using Adobe Illustrator. I am a classically trained artist, I can draw and paint very well, but the engineer side of me is also very particular and satisfied by perfection. Illustrator enables me to get that "perfect" scroll...
