    I have a couple of GRS chasing tool holders that accept the GRS collets. This makes for easier changing of gravers and sharpening if you have one of their sharpening fixtures. This sounds like what you might be looking for. I think they were $32 and some change.

    Example of how not to do it.

    All of these appear to be laser cut designs. The computer controlled laser does not handle shading or curved surfaces well. Usually some hand scratches are added especially where the shading is supposed to be. Thus they can call it hand engraved. I have attempted to fix some of these in the past...

    What’s the name for this pattern?

    This was a common pattern for the checkering on longrifles during their golden era. The dot was usually a sterling silver inlay. It was known by two names: checkered dot or diamond and dot.
