I saw a post on the ACGG Forum today to the effect that Tom Turpin has died. Tom was a great friend to all of us as he put many of our engraving photos in the Gun Digest every year. I will miss Tom!

Here is some of the barrel engraving. It is a large and heavy barrel making it difficult to swing around and work on. Glad to have that part done! But more to do.
The late Frank Hendricks was a very well know Texas engraver as well as the first president of FEGA. One of his sayings was that there were two steps to gun engraving...drawing what you want to engrave on the gun...and cutting what you draw.
I polish the metal to a worn 600 grit w/d and draw...

A recent thread on the ACGG site referred to LED replacement bulbs for fluorescent fixtures. I have engraved under a three bulb four foot fixture for some 40 years or more. I checked out the bulbs at Home Depot and settled on toggled 5000K bulbs of 2100 lumens. These bypass the old ballast...
I see in the new Micro-Mark cataloge they now have a demagnetizer, part number 87912, for $18.95. Though of a different shape, it appears to be of the same type I have been using for many years.
When using these, you should withdraw the tool from the demag slowly before turning off the...
