    Tom Turpin

I saw a post on the ACGG Forum today to the effect that Tom Turpin has died. Tom was a great friend to all of us as he put many of our engraving photos in the Gun Digest every year. I will miss Tom!

Ron Smith's The Making of A Masterpiece

I recently received a copy of Ron's new book and want to comment on just how impressed I am with the book. Ron takes you through all the steps of developing the concept to making the finished product. It was like being right there with Ron as the project progressed. I found his concept and...

    A Bit More Two-Step

Here is some of the barrel engraving. It is a large and heavy barrel making it difficult to swing around and work on. Glad to have that part done! But more to do.

This is not a monumental effort like Mike's trio of SSAs but thought I would post this progress photo. Gold needs a bit more work before sending off for CC.

    Lighting

A recent thread on the ACGG site referred to LED replacement bulbs for fluorescent fixtures. I have engraved under a three bulb four foot fixture for some 40 years or more. I checked out the bulbs at Home Depot and settled on toggled 5000K bulbs of 2100 lumens. These bypass the old ballast...

    Demagnetizer for tools

I see in the new Micro-Mark cataloge they now have a demagnetizer, part number 87912, for $18.95. Though of a different shape, it appears to be of the same type I have been using for many years. When using these, you should withdraw the tool from the demag slowly before turning off the...
