Greetings all,

I haven't posted anything for a while so I thought I would. I haven't shot any good photos yet but hope to later today. This is a little video footage of the coin because photos don't really convey engraved work well as everyone knows.

Thanks for watching...

...and below is some footage of a Marilyn Monroe coin that I did a few weeks ago too...

Hi Mike... If you look at 3:45 in the second video of the Marilyn coin, you can see some scribed lines in the hair area... these are my 'landmark' lines that tell me approximately where a feature is; They're placed on the coin very carefully with a pantograph... I have not yet figured out printer transfers but hope to within the next couple months... You can see the old professional photograph of Marilyn that I worked from hanging above my scope in the second video... I use dividers to scribe borders on the coin... as well as metering them. I scribed the scrollwork very lightly directly on the "Mercenary's" armor with a carbide scribe and then cut it. The scroll work in the border of the same coin wasn't scribed or marked in any way other than metering it with a pair of dividers.

I do the best I can but am no artist and don't pretend to be...

Thank you for your questions, Mike.

Andy I have to disagree with something you said! You said you are no Artist but anyone that can do absolutely stunning work like that is definitely an artist of the highest caliber. I'm sure lots of people will agree to that!

Not an artist!?! Not an artist?!? Then what is an artist? I wish I could do 1/5 as good.

Andy, these are really good. Congratulations. How are you getting the contrast? Are you using inlays anywhere?

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

mrthe, here is a direct link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyiO5goh2tc

You've probably already seen the Marilyn videos.

Lee, thank you for your kind words.. It's an honor to be pictured next to you on the OHNS page! I'm getting contrast by using techniques that are at opposite ends of the light/dark scale. The darkest areas have been bead blasted which causes them to be permanently stained when 'inked'... The absolute highlight areas are mirror polished which makes them glow in the light. Though polishing and bead blasting are common in engraving as you know... I learned that bead blasting stains quite easily as I ruined one of my coins when trying to tone it after blasting... I've also ruined a coin by accidentally touching the bead blasting with a metal tool and leaving a light colored obvious scratch on it. Both errors were learning experiences which were turned into something beneficial. The coin had to be covered with tape and tiny sections cut out... That's how I mask things until I find a better way...
