Last night I bused from Reno west over the Donner pass, chatting with Katherine Plummer, picked up my minivan on the Sierra western slopes, where snow had devolved to very fierce rain storms, Katherine continued on in the casino bus past Sacramento to her ranch. Energy still high, a drove on through the rain and night, reaching Mendocino, at 2am, on the Coast, just as the moon and stars showed through the dark clouds, and the day dawned bright and clear.

It was a grand FEGA show. This is a brief note, to say I am tweaking some three hundred plus pictures, before posting them on the link:

http://picasaweb.google.com/rodcameron2/

in the next twenty four hours.

I may continue to improve the clarity of some shots as the days continue. Please note, none of my Reno 2010 pictures are up yet, but hopefully soon.

After getting the photos up, I will take time to write a little something about the ambiance of the meeting.

Sam and Katherine, if you read this post could you please give me permission to add to the slide show your pictures (acknowledged of course) of the finished plates you cut there, Sam, and some scrim pictures including your pistol grips on the Mike Dubber collaboration, Katherine? I have good shots of your Reno work in progress, Sam, but not the finished engravings, which look splendid!

Another warning label:

My postings will not be a fair and complete overview, and I apologize. That would have been a worthy goal, but time ran out for me, and I had battery charging problems which took precious time to fix. So I do expect many worthy engravers to look at the photos and wonder why some folks got well covered, and others missing or briefly covered. I deeply regret the lack of fair balance, and remember, in know way am I any kind of official archivist, or pro photographer, simply a wondering admirer with a simple point and shoot pocket camera ( Sony Cybershot 13.6 meg, for reference). Every shot is hand held, no tripod, and basically I wandered around part of the show, and tried for targets of
opportunity. Flash was avoided, so hand held exposures that dropped slower than 1/60 second can show camera shake, and that sure is one way to do an injustice to splendid engraving. I hope that I have deleted those shots. Remembering that the exhibitors pay good money to display at FEGA, a tire-kicker like me needs to make sure business is not impeded by any distraction, when an important conversation may be going on between exhibitor and potential client. That said, when I asked permission to be a photographic voyeur, and take informal shots, exhibitors were universally kind and generous in giving me access during quiet moments. In return, I needed to make sure they had a glance at the results to approve of crispness of detail, and also my efforts to work with the mix of lighting from problematic hot ceiling lights mixed with fluorescent and window day light. The last thing you want to do with a point and shoot camera is to point and shoot! Every effort was used to be conscious of getting results that will give at least a taste of the quality of work, and anyone may write and and ask to have any shot deleted? There was an ever-present blue lighting bias in the room, so please forgive me if that shows up. None of the upcoming picasa slight show will come near to proper studio results, and I hope you will again forgive this in return for the fact that it was all done hand held, life in the moment, and hopefully you will be able to infer that the room energy was both lively and good hearted.

I will write again when the photos are up. Thank you all who indulged my intrusion!

Of course, Rod. Permission granted and I'll be anxious to see your gallery. I put up the few I had, which aren't that many.

Rod, you have my permission to post anything that I send you, which I will attempt to do today. But only under one condition, you have to take that extra "m" out of my name. :)

Thanks, Sam and Katherine!

And a thousand apologies for the m and m pen slip, Katherine. That's the second time I failed my spelllling testt ...... I know..."three strikes and your out" ... now I am on probation!

You are both good pals, helping to expand the slide show.

best

Rod, I thought I had looked closely until I browsed your 300+ photos and realized how much I missed. Thanks!
Your birthday pictures from '09 also distracted me; Looks like you live in a wonderful community.
