Good evening all,
I haven’t quite been confident enough to accept any of the 20 gun slides people want to throw at me shortly after hearing I dabble in engraving. But had friend ask if I would just do some lettering on his father‘s Colt For a Christmas surprise and couldn’t really turn him down.

His family calls him “the Old Goat” so simple enough. Never have laid eyes on a Colt with the intentions of cutting on it but what a beautiful piece of steel. I could tell she was gonna cut like butter.

Went as good as I could have hoped for …….. except one super unfortunate slip that I feel shouldn’t have been as dramatic as it appears, almost like it just scratched the patina and really tore me up the second it happened.

Anyways nothing more to it just have not had anything worth showing in a while so here goes.

Im sure I should have done something different to prep it or treat it afterwards. Please feel free to suggest anything that should have been approached differently, and thanks for looking. 6224749258854221573.jpeg

To hide the slip somewhat, touch it up with some cold blue. Get one of the pens so it can be placed more accurately in just the slip.

Thank you sir, the man was happy. Went with a font style I was confident in producing. Engraver’s script is beautiful but something I haven’t practiced enough, the various thick to thin cuts are a bit above my current comfort level. Personally feel a few years away from trying to put some actual art on a firearm so he got a single line border.

Good evening,
Appreciate the tip, thought it might be something a person familiar with the blueing process could remedy. Thank you
