Arnaud & Chapi: I'm glad to see you reverse engineering the design in order to better understand how it was made. Of course I begin by drawing the backbones just as Arnaud has shown, then fill with the other elements inside the scrolls.

Chapi: I've never noticed the S-shapes you've uncovered. Interesting :)

Marcus: My tools at that time were very basic hammer & chisel and push gravers, with gravers sharpened by hand on a whetstone, and design transfers were done by smoke pulls and transfer wax. Pretty primitive by today's standards and with a much steeper learning curve! Of course the pencil was the most important part of this equation.

Wow Sam, that is beautiful. Stuff like this should stop the 'tool wars' argument for good.

Unfortunately that will probably not be the case.
