GRS has changed…

A jeweler acquaintance mentioned an odd fixturing problem and I said I could design something that would mount on his GRS Benchmate. A few days ago I was mulling over how to make it work and texted him for the dimensions of the trapezoidal mounting plate on the Benchmate. He happened to be out of town so I figured I would just ask GRS. No problem, right?

After ten minutes on hold I decided to email. The reply was pretty much, “Nope, we don’t give out specs.”

Huh. It never occurred to me they wouldn’t be helpful. There was a time when Don Glaser or any other employee would have said, “Sure, here’s a CAD drawing. Let us know if it turns out to be something we might like to add to our Benchmate accessories.”

I guess they’re corporate now… ‍

grs is (or was) the very best company i have dealt with. from the days john rohner answered the phone till the last time i contacted them, may be a year ago. i pray this is a temporary 'glitch". sadly, most small businesses get eaten alive by the larger fish. hope it''s not the case here.

oh they got eaten by the bigger fish 7 or 8 years ago when the family sold it to an investment company
