Hello,

My father was FEGA member Raymundo Viramontez, after my mother passed last year, I inherited this BTS belt buckle. My guess is he received this from a fellow engraving/scrimshaw artist?

One of my grandsons is a hunter so I am passing this buckle down to him, but would like to identify the artist using the initials LG, I believe this is circa 1980’s

I figured if anyone knew, they probably hang around here!

My dad wore this frequently, any suggestions for cleaning the piece faux ivory material, or should I leave it as is?

Thank you,
-Vaughn

Hi Vaughn,

Sam Welch here. Sorry to hear about Nancy. Your dad got me started engraving when I lived across the street from you folks in Albany.

I don't know who would be LG from the "80s. Hopefully Roger Bleile will know/chime in.

Best Regards,

Sam

Vaughn, your dad was a great help to aspiring engravers. Anne and I drove over to visit with him several times when we were down visiting with her parents in Tifton, GA in the 1990s. I loved looking over some of his design records and talking about some of the odd engraving projects that he had been given. She was just as excited as I was to have those visits with him. He was a great mentor and motivator.

I have half a dozen of your dad‘s grave handles. What a great artist and a generous man he will be missed.

Vaughn, I meet your father at an engrave-in held at the Fork of the Delaware gun show in the 80's he was very generous with advice on engraving. J.J.
