Inside ring engraving

Well it's been a few years since I last posted, anyway I've been asked to start doing inside ring engraving alongside my setting work..so here's my first attempt, & it's certainly tricky!

I used a flat graver about 1mm wide.

I use normal gravers for engraving the inside of rings. Although I sometimes use it more for scraping and carving. . .

I found that working with a simple wooden dowel wrapped in tape helps steady the ring so my hand isn’t doing all the wrestling. A cheap head loupe with warm lighting also made a bigger difference than I expected. I practiced on a couple of mens gold wedding bands I already owned, and that extra room to experiment took the pressure off while I figured out my angles and stroke control.

. . . and working with a stereo microscope with 10x magnification also helps immensely . . .

Thank you for the compliment. These engravings were also challenging for me, and achieving something like this makes the long “apprenticeship” seem bearable in retrospect.

would it be high jacking a thread to revive this one which is so well titled. would anyone offer some advice herein on inside ring engraving. I bought one of those double bent inside ring gravers. sadly the shank is too thick for any of my power or hand push handles to hold. I tapered a 110 v down majorly today and intend to remove a bit more meat as I still run into the sides. somewhere I have a good print out of a script hand made for the purpose. I've always gone rotary til now but I'd like to step it up.

Well.
you are doing what I do in general for inside ring engraving, which is try t make all my script with lines that run across the ring, rather than along it.
Tho my main go to is to engrave the inside of the ring before I bend it.
