If you can successfully inlay brass then you'll probably do okay with 14k gold, that said you'd probably would want to limit the inlays to wire for borders etc. It will work harden at the first whack to set it.
Or send it in to an outfit like Rio Grande and trade up to 24k and save yourself some headaches.
