Hello everyone,
(First time posting)I'm currently working on an L.C Smith double barrel and the client wants sculpted inlays which is no issue but where they fall in the pattern is where the side plates and frame meet so these surfaces will split. Do I need to treat these a two separate inlays and leave a small amount of material between each section or can they butt up to each other? Also a flush inlay on the bottom again it falls where the trigger frame bolts to the main frame. Any advice would be great.

I would very strongly recommend reworking the design to eliminate this problem. In theory, you can do inlays like this across a joint, but in practice it’s a major PITA, and will be impossible to maintain a perfect fit & finish with any disassembly and reassembly. You would have to do the final touch up after the gun is completely finished.
