Here's what I'm designing for my foray into engraving. It's the swivel stuff from an old chair turned upside down so I can foot spin it. I've utilized a drum throne and have everything rubber mounted for adjustment ease. I can make different sized tops to mount. I'm starting with this vice until I can save up for a GRS vice.

Gotta start somewhere, and this looks like a good start. I would caution you about the "rubber mounting", though, as you will need a sturdy and movement free base to make your cuts easier to control and so that it will take less pressure to make progress through any steel you may be engraving. Shouldn't be a problem if you're cutting gold or silver.
