Ron passed away today. A great engraver and as fine a man as I have ever known.
Please keep is wife Liz in your prayers.

This is undoubtedly a great loss. Ron was a wonderful person.
I didn't have the pleasure of meeting him in person, but I spoke with him a couple of times on the phone. I remember Liz's surprise when she received the call and handed it to Ron, saying, "They're calling from Spain."
Ron leaves behind a magnificent legacy, and we will miss him very much.
RIP Ron Smith.

Ron was an inspiring, kind, gentle, humble soul, and always willing to talk engraving. I met him at the FEGA convention in Vegas a few years back. He was always welcoming, down to earth, and genuine. It was easy to recognize his good qualities! Ron not only walked the walk, he talked the talk, with all his artistic accomplishments, he was never boastful, always interested in helping others. I am grateful I had the privilege of meeting him! His books on engraving always spoke to me, and others in a universal way. The books he authored I will always treasure!

So sad to lose such a talented person. I didn’t know Ron personally but I am thankful for him sharing his knowledge through his books. Deepest coincidence to his family.

Well…dang…. What a great guy and engraver. He was invaluable to my career when I was barely a kid just starting out.

Sad day for the engraving world.

Fortunate to have been able to get a hold of both of his books.
