This is undoubtedly a great loss. Ron was a wonderful person.
I didn't have the pleasure of meeting him in person, but I spoke with him a couple of times on the phone. I remember Liz's surprise when she received the call and handed it to Ron, saying, "They're calling from Spain."
Ron leaves behind a magnificent legacy, and we will miss him very much.
RIP Ron Smith.
Ron was an inspiring, kind, gentle, humble soul, and always willing to talk engraving. I met him at the FEGA convention in Vegas a few years back. He was always welcoming, down to earth, and genuine. It was easy to recognize his good qualities! Ron not only walked the walk, he talked the talk, with all his artistic accomplishments, he was never boastful, always interested in helping others. I am grateful I had the privilege of meeting him! His books on engraving always spoke to me, and others in a universal way. The books he authored I will always treasure!
So sad to lose such a talented person. I didn’t know Ron personally but I am thankful for him sharing his knowledge through his books. Deepest coincidence to his family.
Ron and Liz were among the first founders of FEGA I met in Vegs in "80...and very dear friends ever since. Just knowing he is gone makes me lonesome! Rest in Peace old friend!
i'm truly sad that such an inspirational person has left the fold. his books were just fabulous imho. may he rest in peace. his legacy to the engraving world is alive for all time.
I am truly sorry I just found out about this news He was the most inspiring person to me I am in Iran and have been going through terrible things for a month I have lost so many close friends and relatives in less than a month Ron Smith's death really saddened me I hope his soul rests in peace.
