small 1911 colt government model in 380 I engraved for a regular customer in my version of Western scroll. This pistol is approximately. It's about 5/8 the size of a full sized 1911. I'm not sure what the specific designation is.

I don't think its a mustang. It could be, I'm not an expert. I know it's different than the other mustangs I've done in the past.

I have one and love it. My carry gun. It's the predecessor of the Mustang. It is called the Colt 380 Government. It holds one more round and is 1/2" longer and taller than the lighter Mustang which fits in your pocket just a wee bit better.

Great Job on the engraving!

It is a "Government Model 380". The Mustang and Mustang II have shorter barrels. I have one of those Government Models that's near mint, nickel plated I need to sell and buy something else to engrave.

i've done a couple colt combat "commanders" in .45 cal that look to be like this. they were marked as such, though.

If you look right under the ejection port you can see the words "Government Model" stamped into the frame. That looks good Burt, all polished up like that. If it's the same as mine (and it looks to be), it is a MKIV Series 80 which would be stamped into the other side of the slide.

Yes Tim. It's what you have said it was. Those are the exact markings. I wasn't familiar with this model. This is the first of it's kind Ive engraved, so it was new to me. I've done just about every other modern era Colt, but this one I wasn't familiar with.

It was a carbon steel gun...no problem. I only run into issues on stainless guns that someone wants to have engraved that really don't warrant engraving.
