I'm working through Ron Smiths ADVANCED DRAWING OF SCROLLS. I'm stuck on English Scrolls. A little clarity needed please.
On page 95 ,area 1. Is this the general idea is to layout spirals completely then fill in with leaves ? The transfer would be much clearer without the leaves .
I understand to use only straight cuts and the only flare is on one side of the leaves only, right ?
On page 96 area 1 again, what the heck is that ? I see it finished on the next page and that makes sense. But, ? That's similar but not the same as previous page.
What size diameter each spiral would be a good start to practice and fill up a practice plate with ? I don't have a size reference to start with.
Thank you for your help .I may have more questions.

For practicing draw consecutive rectangles that are 7 mm long by 5 mm high. One spiral per rectangle. Alternate directions of the different spirals. Keep the graver perpendicular, no flaring on the spirals. I cut the spirals frst, then do the inside work. PaulE
