Question: Springfield stainless 1911 slide- engravable?

Howdy folks

I did a search and read the read/only list, came up short.

How much fun/headache are stainless Springfield 1911 slides? Hard all over? Or just around the notches?

thanks for any tips or experience- trying to decide if I want to take one on.
