I'd like to recommend two websites for new engravers to look into for basic information.

The first is engravingglossary.com This is a separate part of Steve Lindsay's forum website but with its own address.

The engraving glossary was compiled by Roger Bleile, who is active on this forum. Its a monumental work disguised as a list of engraving terms. It clears up the confusion about the names of engraving styles, what the different parts of an engraving are called, and graver shapes. It lists photos of early engravers and talks about a few of the more important engravers in a clear and concise style. Lots more there than this short list. And has a great photo of Roger Bleile as well.

The other is the youtube videos of Thierry Duget. Lots of them doing his normal engraving work. And you see a good chunk of what he does, with some videos lasting more than an hour. These are not videos with a lot of dialog and at a low volume. But he does say he will answer email questions. If you ever wonder how something is done and want to watch it being done, this is one of the places to check it out.
My favorites are the english scroll engraving watch and the dot bulino of the dog with the close up window. watch.
