The cost for a box is pretty steep so I wanted to ask what y’all prefer before I splash out for a bunch. If you have any pointers for less expensive choices that’s great too! Thanks

i have a canon laser printer

I tried searching the archives but didn’t come up with anything conclusive. Is this a secret that is closely guarded? Or am I missing obvious information? Thanks so much for any advice!

Great
Just make sure your printer uses pigment ink then your transfers will work

Ah bummer, it’s a laser. So complicated.
A laser printer you don’t need film just print on paper reverse your image first , then just apply a damp cotton swab of acetone to the back of the paper and it will transfer it to your work.

I’ve been doing that but it’s hard to align. Maybe I’ll just be more creative with making a placing jig. (It’s for an irregular shaped item). I really appreciate the help! It’s so fumbly until I get the hang of this stuff.

Important details:

the sandwich wrapper paper is flimsy and warps at high temperature. I make my designs (often multiple printouts of the same design) in A6 format. I print first such an A6 design on a sturdy A4 cardboard (200-300g/m2) to mark the position, and use this as carrier for my transfer printouts. The design printed onto the cardboard marks the position where I tape a piece of sandwich wrapper paper with painters masking tape. I use some big steel washers to weigh the sandwich wrapper down while tapeing the corners doon, and add some tape at the sides. Short sections of tape suffice. Then I print again, and have the design on the sandwich wrapper. The cardboard secures the transport through the printer and minimizes warping.

Have fun trying! I use a brother laser printer, acetone transfers do not work well with their toner.

I laser print on baking parchment paper. search this forum there are good directions as how to do it. You must sand the edge of the paper where you tape it over the image. If you don't the tape won't hold because of the silicon on the paper. After transfer heat with a heat gun. That will stop it from smearing. This method will transfer 100% of the toner on the project. Search the forum. It has been discussed many times.

I tried the baking parchment for transfer. The results varied a lot. Sometimes part of the toner still stuck to the paper (brown rectangular precut paper, folded in it‘s package) after transfer, sometimes the toner stuck to the hot roll inside the printer (no-name and branded white baking paper from the roll). Then I read the „grease-tight“ advertisement at the sandwich wrapper and tried a no-name and a branded product, both worked to my complete satisfaction. Brother toner is wax based. Other‘s companies toners might behave differently.

I have used it exclusively for a lot of years with ink jet printers. At the moment I am using a HP Envy 6000 series printer/ scanner. Between $70. & $90.
I use the isopropyl alcohol and damar varnish solution. On dark surfaces I use white “marking fluid” sold by McMaster - Carr supply.
