downsizing into a new joint - so have the opportunity to choose my location for my engraving bench: either in the main house in my man-cave office— OR 75 feet away from my back door in a stand-alone shop that houses my welding & blacksmithing gear along with my regular workbench & other tools...
Hi JJ -- good advice. I had already talked with the client about just that. He plans to take it apart and that's my back-up plan... just curious to know the experience of others. Guessing someone has attempted this.
Has anyone received a request for engraving a plastic/composite/resin gun? I've already told the client I don't know if it's possible... or how clean or crummy the engraving is likely to look. Anyone have experience here? The item is a CZ SBR.
PS - I know!! I’m a rule-breaker cutting right through that black powder coat, but the client really wanted it, and the final affect turned out pretty nice, if I may say. That billet aluminum breaks off cleanly with no significant rough edges to contend with.
Thought I’d give you an update, since you were gracious with the advice. Acquired sandbags of several sizes and wound up using all 3 at different times. Worked like a champ!!
Hi Allan - forgive me if this is duplicative. Not spotting the reply I made the same day you posted. THANK YOU for this excellent cogent and detailed reply. Good word on elastic being rubber free. That would not have occurred to me. Part of my regular practice is frequent communication with...

I’ve been using riflescope LEUPOLD cleaners; but don’t really have a “maintenance schedule”. While others are welcome to opine, I’d really like to hear from our benevolent dictator on this one.
Don't disagree with the previous comments, though I can't say I've seen heel drag often with short-heel... more often than not, it's a long-heel issue. BUT - here's a possible pearl for you, which I learned from Rex Pederson: Keep your elbow UP! If your elbow gets too lazy/ too low - it can...
Welcome to the world of engraving! Heed Sam's advice. Good words there.
As for me, I'm a pretty big GRS fan. I've been around for awhile -- and know some engravers that do amazing work with Lindsey or a combination of Lindsey & GRS. Having said that, I've had some GRS gear for over 25Y and...
Probably wildly variable. Would be interesting to hear answers from the Engraving MASTERS - who are still in the business of engraving full-time as their primary source of revenue. I imagine that's quite a different POV from those who are retired/ have other revenue sources (viz. - not...
