    Monogram experiment

I hadn't noticed my hand staying in place so well, I viewed the video again, that is interesting. Thanks.

    Monogram experiment

Just for fun I’ve been trying to develop a simple monogram as a signature. I’ve got it down to 2 single lines/cuts. See video Hand engraved Monogram with two lines, the letter G and a boarder, I line each.

    results Art of Flare Cutting

Over the past few years I have viewed much of Sam’s work on the internet and have 5 of his Video courses. Any research on engraving will lead to his work I don’t think it is possible to not be influenced by his tremendous work. Is there a specific link to the designs you mention available?

    Did this today.

Not sure what my opinion is worth, having started to learn engraving just over three years ago I consider myself a three year old. Although I do have nearly half a century as a machinist and general experience I life, I like it.

Knife scale using Flare Cutting and Advanced Shading

Reply to #2 Thank you I had never touched a graver until just over 3 years ago when I received my Steve Lindsey PalmControl, with Classic AirGrave. It is still the only graver I have. I used a flat graver for any Flare type cutting and a 96 deg. Uniform Parallel Point for most other things...

Knife scale using Flare Cutting and Advanced Shading

I’m putting some new skills to the test, including Flare Cutting and Shading techniques. I made a sample knife scale insert for my son in law, who makes them. There are some things that need adjusting but I need to start somewhere. I guess this would this fall under, Knife, Flair Cut, and...

I used the Flare Cutting video a few weeks before I got the Advanced Shading video to develop enough skill to produce the 3.5” diameter coaster seen in the picture. The influence from the training is there but I’m trying to not do anything that is considered copping. I usually start by direct...

    Advanced Shading

Thanks Response to question in #20 Yes, this is the very strange challenge I faced to get it to work I mentioned earlier. After the first couple of days I was considering throwing the whole set up away. In a single rotation of the turntable my arm changes direction 10 times; I never knew which...

    Advanced Shading

Response to requests for videos: The engraving video not being center bothers me to, the phone moved when I pushed the start button. Here are two video Links. One is how I control the table with my arm. In 2 I am generating a single line shape with no beginning or end without stopping...

monk This is a picture of my turntable set up I said I would post. To increase smoothness and ease of control the device has a 5:1 ratio. I place my elbow in the tapper bearing to rotate the turntable. I think this might work for anyone in my situation. The system should be able to be adapted...

    Advanced Shading

Thank you. Besides the video being a great teaching method I particularly appreciate the comment you made regarding what you tell yourself about a minuscule line variation, I feel much the same about variation were I didn’t plan it. When I look at my finished work what jumps out is where I...

Thank you for your encouraging comment and the nice welcome. I have used a strange little saying: I can do anything I want, I only want to do the things I can.

    Advanced Shading

1st post I have finished my practice plate following the video on Advanced Shading video. This is another very good course and I enjoyed following along doing the practice plate. I finding it hard to not incorporate aspects of other work I’ve seen over the past 4 years and I can’t usually...
