Definitely cut and get some practice in. Your drawing is better than mine when I first started. Some of that will connect itself with time, but eventually get good at drawing on metal. Keep going =)
Second money clip finished, this one all my own design this time around. Time to start picking up the pace and completing some tougher projects. Thanks for all the support-Matt
If someone said no heel for stainless I’m not sure I would take their advice. Add a heel, double check that you aren’t messing the temper by grinding a graver out to hot, and practice small circles with different heel lengths.
From someone who has been working on guns and knives to start, and have seen others be smart about their cutting, stainless steel is its own end. While you Can cut and get good results, the perceived depth is more about the width of the line than the actual depth because of its density...
Looks like the website is under maintenance, apologies. I saw on his Instagram a set of classes, but what I have gathered is for the seal type engraving he uses an onglette mostly and goes from there.
Something to consider would be an invisible border or some type of structure (something metering the time on the watch). I’d say the old rule goes if you have to question whether or not you add value to the item (in terms of item being engraved) then it’s not ready yet, but only you will know...
