I had heard this was for sale a while back and was told that is had sold. It is good to see engraving bring the kind of prices real artwork brings.

I know you can buy REAL artwork with a $10 bill but I think you all know what I mean. A major work in paint or bronze can fetch a lot of money from a serious collector. It is good to see engraving getting he same kind of respect.

Ray is right though and I've heard it said before and I fully believe in the idea that, one day these engravings are going to be the future classic art work sought after by collectors like Rembrandts, Monet and et al are today.

Hello Tim.
I believe you are 100% correct.
But what we really need is a way to have reproductions made so that more people can enjoy our art form.
This way, the engraving artist can enjoy the benefits of the income from limited editions not just the originals.
I believe this will require an industry geared to making exceptional quality castings and display pieces and creating the gallery type of mind set to market them.
Once this is done the engraver, like other artists, we can more nearly enjoy a steady income from our efforts.
As it is, we get paid just once for the original which is often only seen by one or two lucky owners.
If this was true of paintings or sculpture I doubt that their value would be so high.
I do not begrudge the paint or sculpting artists at all.
But we need to learn from their success in this and apply modern technology to the reproduction of our art.
