I have read some very informative threads about anodizing titanium. I would be interested specifically about how some of you anodize hand engraved titanium rings. Do you use a bath type anodizing and then sand off the anodizing on the face of the ring leaving the color in the recessed areas? Or, do you use the toothpick/paintbrush selective anodizing approach? Would also be great to know what you use to clean/prepare the titanium prior to anodizing. Thank you for any info you can offer about the process that works best for you.

You can sand the anodizing off afterwards if you like, or use a small applicator for the voltage. I seen where one guy uses a dremel tool with a toothpick in it, and some very find diamond abrasive to sand small areas where the color went over. The anodizing is not that thick, so it is pretty easy to do.

You can sand it of to the original titanium color and let the voltage color in the cuts.
But you can also play with the voltage and color the whole piece, then engrave what you want and put a different color in the cuts by using a lower voltage.
This doesn't affect the higher voltage color.
Prepare prior to coloring can be ultrasonic cleaning, but you have to color it immediatly after cleaning, titanium "corrodes" very quickly after cleaning.

Just came across this, haven't seen it yet but maybe useful information.

Thank you Idaho Flint. I lived in Coeur d'Alene for 8 years back in the early 80's and loved it there!

Thanks Willem. You always contribute good information and I appreciate that.
