Years ago,I made this large bowie knive from spring steel, the handle is made from a hickory root. This was my first attemp at engraving and haven done any since my buffalo nickel, with the hobo on it.

I cold blued the knives blade then cut the metal with a old mtn man and his dog plus a deer.

Just thought Id share this with the group. Thanks for viewing and your thoughts or comments are welcome.

Looks pretty good - as far as I can tell.

Allow me to pass along the number one tip for better photographs: use a tripod.

I will, of course, admit that I fail to do so on far too many of my own photographs. ;)

Dennis, old cobbler tools I resharped which I used to cut the metal, its not carved that deep. I cold blued the blade then any mark{cut} I made on it would show very clearly.

Thks for your question,Tn~

that kind of steel is a beast to engrave. i used to do tomahawk blades out of large truck springs. you really have to anneal the stuff. i basically used round gravers on the stuff then, as they were the only gravers i had that would take the abuse ! you do this rather nicely.

From all your posts I can see nothing is safe. Keep cutting anything that will hold still. And keep posting. It's looking better all the time.
