Actually, I would love to come to Africa. I would have to work things out with Holly and the schedule but I would love to do that.

Maybe we could work something out where some of you guys get together and pay my way over there and we spend some time on a class and spend the last half on a hunt????? Maybe????

If you guys are really interested in me coming over there to spend a few days instructing I am sure we can make something work. Schedule would be the hardest thing to work around on my end.

Ray's video is indeed worth having and another asset to the engraving community and those that want to learn how to engrave. I learnt quite a few things just in the first few minutes.

Ray in Africa teaching engraving with a double rifle and hunting.................now that sounds positivley dangerouse!!!!!!!!!!!...............and fun

I agree that the DVD is great.... from what I could tell from zooming through it!!! (because like a kid on Christmas day, I couldnt wait to watch it... so at about 11:30pm I popped it in and skimmed through it to see what it had to offer. Many thanks to you Ray for your willingness to share with us your knowledge and skills that are often only discovered through years of experience. I would have loved to see it set up with a video on a scope like Sams videos. I know you didnt have anything to do with the production of it but the more I think about it, the madder( is that a word?...madder...just doesnt look right) anyway.. more upset I get. I finally get to see you in action, but dont really get to see it if you know what I mean. Thanks again for sharing your awesome talent with the rest of us. I'm sure the inlay video will be the same quality but worth buying anyway due to the content. I'll probably be mad after watching it too!!! I have probably spent enough money on videos to attend a class but I am limited on time. I wish there were weekend classes... say from thurs. to sun. or mon.... but you just dont hear of that do you?

The wax is a sculptors wax. When I was doing my graduate work in sculpture this is what we used for lost wax casting in bronze. The university bought it directly from Mobil Oil company in like 50 lb boxes. The closest thing I have found to it is the brown sculptors wax you can get at art and sculptor's supply places. Just make sure you are getting the soft brown wax (it is just about identical to the stuff I have). They make other waxes that are harder and do not work as well.

Most places allow you to buy it by the pound and a pound will last you and five other engravers three lifetimes. IF you can get the stuff that is actually made by Mobil Oil all the better.

I ordered this DVD and just sent off this message to the producers:

I received my copy of An Introduction To Knife Engraving With Ray Cover the other day and with high hopes I sat down to watch it. Those hopes quickly vanished.

This is the poorest produced video I have ever seen. The engraver did his part; but your photographer should be fired! At least 95% of the video is out of focus, too far away to see what is really happening at the actual cutting point, or a hand is in front of the subject. Have you guys even looked at this production?

Apparently, the camera was set on auto focus - a big mistake when doing such videos. It should have been done manual focus for the close-ups and through the microscope so that the viewer can see what the engraver sees.

You have managed to waste Ray's time, my time and money, and DVD materials. I'll certainly NOT be buying anything else from your company nor will I suggest your products to anyone. Since you marketed this lousy product at full price and do not feel guilty doing so, I wonder about your other products. I'll never know as I will not buy from you again. You should be ashamed for producing such poor quality goods. Perhaps you should read your own mission statement.
