Because I could not get my hands on a ready to go rubber thingy with diamond powder in it, I made this copper wheel myself. Because of the initial faceting of precious stone's I do (for a hobby), I bought this diamond powder years ago. But since I've discovered carbide gravers I can put it to perfect other use as well. At my work we have nothing like the powerhone but only a rubber disc with diamond powder witch tends to round off gravers to a certain degree.
Out of gemstone facetting I thought a copper wheel with diamond powder would do the same for me without rounding the edges to much.
This is a 22mm copper wheel on wich I entroduce some oliveoil with diamond powder.
I mix this powder in a litle container for instant use.
Then I add it to my copper disc on a mandrell on my flexishaft and cut my gravers or cut down gemstones.
A while ago I needed square emaralds sizing 1.0mm. No where to get them. I used 1.5 round emaralds gleued on an old ground down burr with second gleu. With the optivisor on I could cut it down the size of the round emaralds to a square one with (maybe a little flawed angle's) the required size.
Allso because of my lazyness I tend to put the heel on my gravers with this copper disc.
It does take a bit of practise, but with a steady hand you can do a lot.
The minus part is, that you can get some black oil blotts on your clothing. So don't wear your best suite!
