I havea good relationship with the owner of Taylor's and Co (one of the Uberti importers). He told me a lot of the cowboy shooters are moving to this caliber as the ammo is more readily available and less costly.

I would go with the 45 Long Colt you can also load it with 410 shotgun shells such as the pdx1 (home defense)

A mini scatter gun! :)

Remember the class is designed around the Bond Arms Derringer. Another good thing to think about is recoil. I have both 45 Colt and 38/357. The 38 is mild recoil compared to the 45. Just something to think about. :tiphat:

P. S. The barrels are interchangeable. Why not both. And the second barrel set are very reasonable.

You all need to know that Sandy is a little recoil sensitive. He wouldn't even shoot my 10 Gage Remington shotgun in Emporia a couple of years ago......... lol

Hi ya Mike.
You bet. If my mother raised any idiots it was one of my little brothers. I am a wimp when it comes to recoil.

The Cowboy Action Shooters go with the .38 Special ultra-light (mouse phart) loads to get the least amount of recoil. I own an American Derringer M-1 stainless in .45 Colt and it's pretty much brutal to shoot. The instructions recommend shooting no more than 6 rounds per day. Of course, one of my friends needed to prove his manliness to me and insisted in shooting it 50 shots in a row. The next day he couldn't hold a coffee cup with that hand. It was all swollen up... funny too! :)

As for being able to also shoot .410 shotgun shells... mine will do that also. It only leaves about 1/2 inch of rifled bore so it is VERY inaccurate. The shotgun shells don't have enough barrel length to burn the powder so most of it falls on the ground unburned. There's not much power then. I shot a coffee can from about 10 feet and all it would do was dent it some. It was very disappointing. But, I know from experience it's not what you'd figure it would be.

If you are wanting to sell one to CAS shooters I'd say .38 Special is the one to go for.

Ditto on the 45 long colt. I have a couple Bond Arms derringers and they pack a wallop in 45 or .410. I'll shoot darn near anything and I still don't like to shoot these. Nice to hear that about the 38 loads. Might have to order another barrel!

if the long colt load wont do, i'd advize 600 nitro express or 50 bmg. believe it, or not-- within the past couple years- i think the maker was russian- created a matched set of revolvers in 600 nitro !
lord help the dude that squeezes the trigger on that beast !

Monk I think I remember seeing pics of that revo... Wasn't it close to 30lbs when finished? Looked like a SAA but 10 times bigger

my hd aint what it used to be {sorta like "the old gray mare), but i think it was about 15 or so lbs each. when i was a pup, a shooter in the club had a 600 nitro double. i stupidly thought it was a shotgun. ptl, the dude was ready right behind me to catch me. he had the unmitigated gall to tell me there was still one round to go. at the time, we were shooting refrigerators, old tv's, whatever the traffic would bear. legal then, i loved to shoot rats there with a scoped, ruger hawkeye in 256 magnum.
