I finally got my new benchrest action in and this is it. Beside it is a sketch of something i've been playing with that would make use of the octagon shape (I borrowed the idea from something I saw that Steve Lindsay did, (and I asked his permission). I think something like it would be cool wrapped around the front of the action. Here's my questions;

1) If I wrapped it around, the scope blocks would mostly cover it on the top flat, would you wrap it around any way.

2) I should have shown it, but the vertical flat on the other side has the makers name, serial #, etc. very deeply engraved, and would be right in the middle of the pattern. Maby cut a border around the lettering and just execute what little of the pattern would stick out?

Obviously this pattern will not work on the back end of the action, shorter flats and funny shapes. Should I just try to modify this pattern with shorter versions and make them fit, or do something totally different, scrolls, etc. would it look funny to have a different style on the other end?

3) Borders. This type of thing obviously doesn't require a border, but if I do something different on the back end that wouldn't look right without a border, would that look worse. The maker is BAT Machine, and they have a logo with a bat with cross hairs. I was gonna put that on the top between the scope blocks, but again the border question.

Sorry for all the seemingly stupid questions, but this is my first attempt at designing anything more serious than a silver bracelet or a buck knife. I'm not trying to get someone else to do my work for me, but my lack of experience is showing through here.

You need to put the barrel on the action and mount it in the stock and scribe a line on both side of the action and barrel,this is so your engraving is'nt hiden under the stock. J.J.
