I've used sign Painters "1-Shot " enamel for over 25 years to fill the backgrounds on engraving......
Using the same method described in the tutorial Jason linked to.....

I've also used the same 1-Shot, for well over 50 years lettering & pinstriping....

Bottom line......
Good Stuff. :)

Rust-oleum seems too thin, and takes too long to dry for my likeing for anything i've done...

can of paint and a thumb....& yer in business....... :)

Hope this helps a little.........

Hate to hijack a thread, but question; I have heard of using speed ball printers ink to blacken the engraving. Now as to the question, how do you do it, do you thin it, use it straight?? I saw in Neil Hartliep book that he cut it 50/50 ???

Powder horn - If you are going to use The product Speed Ball Block Printers Ink, use the oil based ink and not the water based. The oil based will adhere better to a hard surface without wiping off so easily. This what I use on the FEGA castings as well.
