OK I have been pricked by the can I engrave a gun bug. I have a friend that owns this 44 black bowder Pistol and he asked me if I could embellish it with some of my Hand Engraving work. It was interesting and fun. Here are a few pictures, comments are welcome as I want to improve. I am now looking for a hand gun to do a total Mike Dubber design on. Hopefully with your help I won't botch it up and hopefully I will have it to show at the FEGA show next year. Any recommendations on which 6 shooter for my first real full hand engraving would also be appreciated. Thanks for looking.

If you want an easier metal to work with as a first gun, definitely do a blued gun over stainless. Yes you will have the cost of rebluing but the softer steel will be easier to deal with.

I would highly recommend the Uberti SAA clones or a blued Ruger Vaquero or a blued Ruger Super Blackhawk. Not one of the stainless models in either brands. Dealing with the complex surfaces and obstructions of a revolver of any sort is challenge enough. Doing it in stainless is just asking for you to have a miserable time of it.

If you are dead set on doing a stainless gun, I'd really suggest finding a 1911 you like.

looked nice to my aging orbs. i would, however, be mindful of doing the shading on this gun. if you're not up to speed in that area, practice on some steel plates, then just go back and add the shading.

Very nice!!! Did you engrave through the bluing on the cylinder or is there a way to preserve the cuts during the bluing process, I've read several differing thoughts on this and I'm still confused, I've seen this in several and think it looks great.
