I can't remember whether I posted this. I'll blame it on age and farming. At this point in my life I am becoming good at blaming everything on farming.

The animals were originally done in bulino in Italy and the owner wanted them redone in gold. This is a little tricky and one should really think this through before accepting.
- If the anatomy is off-and it was- the amount of correction possible is limited. The pose is already established and the gold needs to cover up all of the original bulino.
-How does one do this without ruining the finish around the gold inlay while properly finishing the inlay.
-The gun may very well be hard.

Other than those small items it's a piece of cake....right?

Tough job - "fixing" anatomical errors, doing it without damaging the surrounding areas and finding the material harder than you expected.

The "lesson" from this to new engravers should be to add a healthy fudge factor to your price estimate.

You can always pleasantly surprise the client by handing him/her a bill for less than you quoted if the job turns out to be easier than you figured.

Much, much easier than explaining why the job suddenly has to cost more than you'd guessed - and possibly losing a return customer over that change.

No one ever gets 100% accuracy with an estimate. Sometimes you will go to bed hungry...

Happens to ALL of us. Best you can do is try to minimize it.
