When- June 23-27 I will start promptly at a.m. Monday morning. Arriving early is encouraged so we can get the money taken care of and get started on time.

Where- We will begin in the infamous garage.

25 south main
Hyde Park, UT

Hyde Park is a small town that is now a suburb of Logan located in northern Utah about 20 miles from the Idaho border.

It is likely I will rent a room at the local city building for our small town. It is one block away and has a room with good lighting, seating, a break area, and restroom facilities. I think it will be a better teaching environment and much easier to do powerpoints and show photos.

Airport- Salt Lake International. I am 1 1/2 hours north of the airport. The airport has all of the major car rental companies.

Food- Plenty of restaurants and grocery stores in the area.

Hotels- Quite a variety within 6 miles. I am three miles north of downtown Logan so hotels on the northern end of Logan or in North Logan are a bit closer. Hyde Park has no hotels or any business for that matter.

Entertainment- The best would be if some of you drag instruments along for BBQs and music in my backyard. Logan has the usual faire of movie theaters and whatnot.

Area- It's a high mountain valley -altitude 4800 ft.-and the mountains and canyons should be in full splendor. If you are a nature photographer you will thoroughly enjoy an evening or weekend in Logan canyon.

Money- $325 will reserve your seat and the other $325 due first thing Monday morning. Checks may be sent to the above address or paypal to leegrif@comcast.net and you will get a receipt if you wish. Something about the IRS I believe.

I will try to video the demos and lectures with the hope that it will be edited and at some future date be made available for purchase.

Materials- You need to bring pencils. Specialized pencils are not necessary. The good old #2 that we used as kids in school will suffice. If you have drawing pencils such as 6H-9B they will work great. I have a pencil sharpener. Mechanical pencils also work well. Bring a drawing pad and eraser. The pad does not need to be anything fancy. We are focusing on drawing fundamentals and not on gallery quality finished pieces.

I will provide handouts and I have large sheets of paper. Some of our exercises will involve materials not as common and I will provide.

Four miles away is a Michaels and a Hobby Lobby. Both have a decent art section with materials.

Class size- I teach a Sunday School class with 13-14 12 year olds each week. You can't possibly compete with them. It would be great to have a class of 10-12. Those who have had a class from me before know that I stay busy getting around the class and giving help.

This is a drawing class however if you have projects and want some help with the drawing or designing bring them and they can likely become part of the teaching process.

Private instruction has it's advantages and so does group instruction. Over the years I have noticed that with group instruction the students learn from each other as well as from the instructor. With a group, more questions are asked and they may be ones that you did not think of but need the answer or discussion. The friendships formed are sometimes long lasting and therapeutic on those days when a phone call is needed for encouragement and sympathy. You are all going through similar
struggles and joys and classmates can become your long term support group.

It will be a lot of fun and the more I think about it the more excited I become. Now on to the prep work.

Lee, you might concider making another book explaining this topic. I have drawing books but one meant for the engraver would be very nice. I know Meeks book covers some of the aspects but a book devoted to one aspect of the art can really go into detail .

I agree, that's the prime reason I want to attend.
