Hello all i have a question, i have a client who is interested in something like this, it seems to be cut after it was blued then the engraving was gold plated. Its just my take.

Would you nickle then gold plate the engraved parts, how would the bluing react?

Whats your take?

I'm not 100% sure, but my thought is engrave.... plate.... hand finish the high areas back down to steel.... then blue.

the bluing should have no affect on the gold, but the plating process would affect the bluing.

maybe someone with experience combining the two processes will have more info for you.

It seems that the only parts gold plated are the one removable, I think that the engraving was done through the bluing then the engraving was fill with gold wax or alike. A more elegant way would be to cut the frame and slide then to gold plate both then polish all the flat parts, so the gold plating would remain in the engraved cut, and blue the frame and slide the gold plated cut will not take the bluing.

I have used the bonanza gold inlay kit from Brownells a couple times when I was a kid. I'm now 64 and I must say the stuff is pretty tough. Looks the same as the day I put it on. Pretty tough stuff to, I use those pistols pretty hard and have never had to touch it up. Does it look like gold? Well it has fooled many an eye. But it is not inlayed next to any 24K to have a contrast either.

If I were to do a pistol like that I would use one of those plating pens like the gentleman did on that Christmas bracelet post. Then all the plating color would match.
