Actually I have lots of questions, but this one will do for now.
How do you inlay the gold wire rope shown on this knife, without damaging the rope design?
Hope using this picture is not a copy write infringement? I found it on the internet.

That is a raised gold wire inlaid and then dot punched afterward to give it that effect. What you end up with is raised dots. Jim Small has done a lot of that and I see it in Julie Warenski's work also.

Essentially you inlay a gold wire larger than the channel will hold which leaves it proud of the surface and that's what gets punched into dots or shaped otherwise and the "flashing" that this operations leaves gets removed afterward.
