Probably, some of you may know this, but others may not. Our vises, although strong, weren't built for King Kong. If gripping metal suitably thick, and especially if you need to go to the end of a jaw, put a piece at the other end of the identical thickness, and sandwich all with two dry pieces of plain tablet paper. As long as the paper is dry, the friction and holding power is increased tremendously. . .no need for overtightening. Just an old machine shop trick.

metal to metal-- simply isolate the metal with a small piece of paper on your jaw faces. it worx ! less force on your jaw screw = increased holding power at a given screw pressure. just a "friction thingy". no rocket science here.

HI,

I Always have the blue painters tape next to the mill vise to put on metal where the jaws are to get friction and to not marr the work.
Works great and no glue residue...

Leather works great, suede on on side, smooth on the other.
