Question: iron wire

I'm having a hard time finding Iron Wire in different gauges. Does anyone
know of a supplier that I could get ahold of ?

I brought some from a jewellery supply house here in New Zealand. Here is the link
I'm sure it can be found in the USA. Try looking under soldering supplies.

John Barraclough gave me a very good tip..........the wire strip covered in plastic/paper that is used to wrap the end of bread bags works very well.............and it does!!!

You also might try a hobby shop that sells ship building supplies. They used to carry several sizes on spools, like thread spools.

Most home building centers like Home Depot has some.If your looking for wire with carbon that can be hardened do a search for piano wire.

The type of wire used by gardeners (covered in green plastic) is iron. That might be worth a try.

You can draw iron wire just like gold or silver. Afterwards it needs to be annealed and cleaned with steel wool.

I haven't tried to draw iron wire in a plain draw plate but it does work in a carbide insert draw plate with annealing often and lots of lube.
