Thanks Hillbilly.
People at the Apple Store really helped me out. Thought I was going to have to drop $1500 on a new computer. When he found out what I was needing to do he said you don't need a computer and showed me how to do all the things I thought I needed a computer for. Saved me $1500, so I bought a pair of jaybird Bluetooth ear buds I've had my eye on.
Thought I'd try to practice uploading pics by posting what I took of this Henry rifle as I went. I know I have a long way to go and a short time to get there. Again, looking forward to all helpful comments.
Thx don and a Texas cowboy for the kind words. Yea, the bridgeport is my newest distraction. That pic was after we reassembled it after carrying down to my basement, piece by piece and completely rebuilt. Took a couple of months. Beau is my buddy, he's posing in the back yard.
I was in the Apple Store trying to learn to post pics and the guy said " let's just post some pics". So I was unprepared and no thought went into the beginning of this post. I would really like some critique on my engraving. The design is from Nimschke. I tried to mostly follow his design and cutting style. I reAlly did a bad job on the eagle and should have left more negative space between the eagle and the scrolls. I have a long way to go with my drawing and cutting.
For anyone starting out in engraving, I started here. I could not draw, engrave, didn't know anything about guns, other than
I love them and they all look like they need embellishment. The engravers on this site have helped me get this far. I hope and strive to do better. I know I have to start showing my work to get there. So please, critique welcomed.
overall, i like the top gun you show--- but the clear area near the receiver top- ugh ! that just drags my eye away from what i want to look at. if i had done this, i'd surely figger something to fill in all that shine. just an honest opinion.
Monk thx for the response. not sure the area you're referring to.
Front panel? I'm still engraving this piece, so I can recut or add still. I was trying to follow Nimschke's pattern. I could not engrave the area under the barrel on the receiver due to voids in the brass that may become larger cavities. This has happened before. Just took some quick shots of the other parts. Couldn't engrave back of buttplate for same reason of voids. Will do monogram on circle for cleaning rod storage. Thx again.
