While I know I am not the first to make use of these peg clamps, I thought I'd throw my version into the mix. I had a nice cast aluminum base to light that went kaput, and the rest just fell into place after some lathe time. It actually works, although it doesn't hold up to hammer and chisel, thus the lightweight term.

Not to hijack this post but I came up with this $15 rotating coin vise alternative a while back and thought it fit with this topic. Its certainly not fancy but it is working and holding up fairly well for me so far. 60 mm VXB aluminum bearing and a Kurt or similar vise stop. Painters tape on each of the surfaces I want to hold (bearing to table, vise to bearing) and then superglue the tape surfaces to each other. Only alteration was to sand down the jaw surfaces of the vise stop so they are flush with the surface of the coin held in it, oh and I took a dremel to round out the inside edges of the jaws but after using it I don't think that it was completely necessary. Most vise stops only open a max of about an inch so there is a size limitation though.

Ron,
I like it. We think the same. I used a couple of pillow block bearings to hold engraving vises. So many creative ways to fabricate engraving fixtures.
