Kristen, the Magna-Graver can do fine work if you practice with it, just like any of the other tools.
Please take a look at the www.fega.com forum and look at the work of Jerry Whitmore.
Click on the Pro's pictures on the left of the main page.
Jerry used a Magna-graver to do all this work including the fine shading.
Application and practice with any of the tools, hand powered or power assisted can produce fine engraving.
