one might be tempted to observe this violates a bunch of rules regarding alternating direction of scroll rotation, etc., but it looks nice and seems to work in this case...

that looks nice, what blade steel is it? and is that before heat treatment? or is it after ?

aside from the "rules violation", it's clean looking cutting.

The blade I have made myself and it is a 3 layer laminated blade with hardened steel 20C in the middle. The engraving is done after treatment.

It's a bobbin holder for fly tying.

I think it's the use of the core element in repetition that makes it work. The scroll pairs become more of an oval.
