I have a chance to buy a NgraveR flex shaft machine. No foot pedal and only one cutter. Is the thing worth owning? Not a fan of the hand piece since I’m used to my mushroom handle push gravers. But thinking I would like to try a power graver. At $200 it’s not a pile to try but also don’t want to toss $ away. Advice please.

Does it come with the Foredom motor and flexshaft? If so it might be worth $200. You should be able to find a foot control, possibly on eBay. Are you able to see it working before you buy it? Grease may have hardened in the Ngraver handpiece, if you buy it you may want to clean and lube it. If working, the handpiece could possibly be worth 100. Depending on the condition and model, the motor might also be worth 100. Remember Ngraver is no longer in business and any parts would only be available through eBay, etc.
I have a GRS gravemach and an Ngraver set up. I am not an accomplished engraver, I use them for intricate wood carving. I believe it would be possible to do fine engraving with the Ngraver, but I also believe some of the people on this forum would be able to do great work with a nail and a rock (not me)

After owning one of these about 10 years ago at this point; it’s definitely not worth owning. I was not able to learn engraving with this tool to any successful degree. about 4 years ago I went with a lindsay hand piece and took off on much better footing to learning engraving. I think the Ngraver hand piece held me back. It’s like a club compared to most other powered hand pieces being a surgical scalpel. it would be bettet to go with hammer chisel till you save enough for a grs or Lindsay hand piece If you can afford it. Just my 2 cents! Best of luck!
