Outstanding exhibit of "Engrossed and Illuminated Leaves" dating from the 10th to the 16th centuries.
Currently it is on view at the Arthur Ross Gallery in the Art Library building, 220 S. 34 Street, on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania in center city Philadelphia. Titled, Treasured Pages, Medieval and Renaiissance Manuscripts that show texts devoted specifically to prayer, learned studies, law, and the Bible.
On loan from the Rare Book Department of the Free Library of Philadelphia, the overall display will remain on public view through Jan. 6, 2008.
The tradition of hand engrossed and illuminated manuscripts continues to the present day in the preparation and award of testimonial and celebratory certificates and in the continued practice of illustration in the field of advertising and editorial publications.
