a couple pieces of the rifle I just finished, the pics are crummy we shot them at the range before sighting in.

nice job Kent, and loved the patch box, just glad i wasnt there as i would love to shoot it, but, am right handed, an that doesnt go well with left-handed rifle !!!

thanks for your kind words.
this is a very early transitional rifle, and brass screws are totally out of place.
Brass screws were not used till much later if at all.
I have never seen brass screws on any extant flint rifle.
KC Steve, it shoots very well.

Since this is sort of a black powder thread, here's an similar original patchbox made and engraved by Jacob Dickert in Lancaster, PA, about 1790ish. This was considered pretty darn good engraving on what was the frontier at that time.

John, the box I used was basically the same Dickert box except my "modern" version don't have the sideplate piercings. I had the original engraving pattern but always alter them somewhat and try to stay in the same vein but not copy original work unless a customer specifys such.

You did a nice job on the interpretation too! Anyone could see that it was a Dickert design from a mile away.
My rifle is a strange one with the piercings in the side plates, and most don't have them. But then again, none of his other rifles have the design on the PB cover either.
Nice job, and I'm sure the owner will be pleased!
